A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath dismissed concerns about faecal contamination in the waters of Triveni Sangam during the MahaKumbh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised suspicions of a conspiracy to hide the truth about the pollution.

Yadav shared a report on social media from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) about the water quality in Prayagraj. According to the report, during tests on January 12-13, 2025, the water did not meet the criteria for safe bathing at most locations.

He said, "The CPCB told the National Green Tribunal that the Ganga river in Prayagraj is 'contaminated with sewage'. However, in Lucknow, this was denied, and it was claimed that everything is 'under control'." Yadav questioned if the public was being misled and asked whether anyone could face action for ignoring the government report.

In response to these concerns, CM Yogi Adityanath defended the water quality, stating that the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) regularly checks the water and that purification processes are in place. He assured the public that the water near the Triveni Sangam is safe for bathing and consumption.
